Go Ahead, Convince Me Trump is Stupid
I am going to say something now that will be incredibly unpopular. Are you ready?
Donald Trump is NOT stupid.
I know this flies in the face of popular belief, and I understand why. I know that after saying this you might consider me stupid. But I’ll say it again. Donald J. Trump is not stupid.
I am constantly seeing posts and comments from people on social media about how stupid Donald Trump is. “He’s an idiot.” “He’s bankrupt 6 companies.” “He is the dumbest person ever.” You’ve seen them. You might have even written them.
I don’t get it. If you can, please explain to me how this man is stupid.
It might make us feel better to think this, just like it makes us feel better posting memes ridiculing his supporters. And sometimes we need to feel good. I get that. But I think we are looking at it all wrong.
So why am I sure he’s not stupid? Let’s look at the evidence.
In the film “Forrest Gump” the famous line say it all. “Stupid is as stupid does”. So let’s look at what Trump does.
Trump has run for president 4 times, winning twice. He currently sits in the Oval Office. We might think he’s a liar and a thief, but I don’t think that this is an example of stupidity.
Trump commands millions of cult followers around the country. There are people who would literally die for him. Now, I may be naïve, but this doesn’t seem stupid to me.
He steals millions from people, many of whom can’t afford it.
He lives in a mansion and owns property across the globe.
How is this man stupid? Maybe I don’t understand the definition of the word stupid.
Even with the six companies he’s bankrupted, I need help understanding the stupidity. In every case, what has he lost and what has he gained? I would say he definitely lost the company. But does he care? Do you really think his goal was to have a successful business?
If you understand him as a conman, it might change your opinion here.
The one goal of a conman is to make money, and big money at that. If I were a conman, I would use this process. 1) Set up a corporation, 2) Sell stock in my corporation, 3) Get vendor supplies on product and services on time, 3) Sell my stock for a profit, 4) Fail the corporation leaving my suppler and my investors to take the loss and spend years in court suing me. Even the school he set up was a con, a government insured con.
Some ghostwriter wrote the book “The Art of the Deal” for Trump”. Even that’s a con. He should have written “The Art of the Con” instead.
We see him as stupid because we are honest. We can’t even fathom the idea of a con. And it’s that exact honesty that a conman takes advantage of. But when we understand the art of the con, we can see the evil brilliance. Trump is both the Wizard of Oz and the man behind the curtain. And while the wizard huffs and puffs the man behind the curtain steals you blind.
Call him a conman, a grifter, a thief, a swindler, evil. Call him anything else. But don’t call him stupid.
In a war, one of the cardinal rules is, don’t underestimate your enemy. It gives them power. And when we convince others to underestimate an enemy, we lull the people int a false sense of security. And that is dangerous. It makes them easier to con.
So my advice, contrary to the line in the film, The Wizard of Oz, most definitely pay “attention to the man behind the curtain”.
